Common Faults with Brakes

What is it?

A device for slowing or stopping a moving vehicle, typically by applying pressure to the wheels.

Where is it located?

Modern cars have brakes on all four wheels, operated by a hydraulic system. The brakes may be disc type or drum type.

Indicators of faults:

Brake warning light
Screeching, grinding or rubbing noises.
Vibration in the pedal or steering wheel.
A burning smell.

Common faults:

Defects or failure in brake pads, cylinder, shock absorbers.
Low brake fluid.
