What is it? A belt that transmits motion from the driveshaft to the radiator fan and the dynamo or alternator. Where is it located? The fan belt is located near the radiator fan and is attached to a pulley or series of pulleys. Indicators of faults: Noise. Slipping. Pin holes in belt. Common faults: Incorrect
What is it? Power-assisted steering on a motor vehicle. Where is it located? The power steering reservoir is usually on or near the engine, and can have a white or yellow reservoir and a black cap. Indicators of faults: Fluid levels. Squealing. Vibrating steering wheel. Hard steering. Common faults: Power steering leak. Drive belt slipping.
What is it? The oil pump in an internal combustion engine that circulates engine oil under pressure to the rotating bearings, the sliding pistons and the camshaft of the engine. Where is it located? The oil pump can sometimes be on the outside of the engine, if not it can be an externally mounted pump.
